Body Confidential Review

Last month we were delighted to welcome Jen Leeming to our studio, for a but of pre-party pampering, before she headed off to a fabulous ball!

Jen is a journalist for Body confidential and Liverpool Confidential, and not only was she with us to feel and look beautiful for the ball, but scarily she was here to review us too!!!

We had a great time getting to know Jen, and creating a look that suited her personality and style. And its an understatement to say we are delighted by the review she gave us!!!

IT’S a universal truth that getting ready is far more fun than actually going out. Who doesn’t love cracking open the bubbly and glamming up with their mates? Still, however much you love your girls, there’s no denying that sometimes you wish some magical hair and make-up fairy godmother could float down and make you look fabulous. And that’s where So Coco Rouge comes in…
In a city where glamour is as highly regarded as Liverpool, So Coco Rouge is the answer to the prayers of many a girl lost in the often scary and overwhelming world of beauty.
There’s nothing better than discovering a hidden gem nestled in the heart of your city, and the shiniest of these gems simply has to be this make-up and hair studio. Tucked away in a corner of the trendy Georgian Quarter, So Coco Rouge is the baby of Robyn Turnbull and Sian-Louise Auld - two lovely ladies with an impressive fifteen years experience of the beauty world between them.

In a city where glamour is as highly regarded as Liverpool, So Coco Rouge is the answer to the prayers of many a girl lost in the often scary and overwhelming world of beauty. Offering a wide selection of services ranging from girls night out makeovers, bridal hair and make-up and even styling for editorial pieces or fashion shoots, there is nothing these ladies can’t do.

I popped down to visit the girls and immediately fell in love with their gorgeous little studio, a place that combines decadent style with the cosy feel of your own bedroom. With dressing room lights around the mirrors, plush cream carpets and a retro style, who wouldn’t want to get ready for their big day (or indeed night) here? Not only that, but within minutes of my arrival, I was being offered champagne and cupcakes. Now that’s celebrity living.

Before getting started on my makeover, the girls took special care to make sure they knew exactly what I wanted. They understood exactly what it’s like to sit and watch your hair being turned into a pouffy disaster or your face transformed from Coco Chanel to Coco the Clown but not being brave enough to say anything. From that moment on, I knew I was in safe hands.

One of the company’s best elements is that Sian and Robyn are trained to do hair AND make-up, meaning they aren’t restricted to one area when it comes to their clients. Not only that, but they trained together, so they know each other inside out, skilfully whizzing around each other without ever clashing.

They both got to work straight away, talking me through exactly what they were doing, and what products they were using on me, a touch that I loved – after all, how many of us actually know what goes into the stuff we’re putting on our skin? The girls at workThe products were beautiful, making me want to dash home and reassess my own pitiful collection. Their favourite brand is Lily Lolo - a mineral-based range that the girls confided had antibacterial properties, they use make-up that’s actually good for skin.

The finished look was perfect – classy but subtly glamorous, and perfectly matched to the dress I would be wearing later that evening. Even better, it didn’t budge all night, meaning that I was never stuck in the toilets desperately trying to stop my make-up from sliding off my face, and could concentrate on the much more important task of dancing instead.

As for my hair, I must admit I was nervous of being turned into a bride, but after telling Robyn how much I loved the Grecian look, she deftly gave me a beautiful loose up-do, full of twists and little plaits that had people asking jealously how I’d managed to create such an incredible hairstyle. Don’t worry though, I told them all the truth. Eventually…

Finished makeupSo Coco Rouge has become successful through little more than a brilliant industry reputation – these girls don’t need to sell their company, their fabulous results sell themselves. One of my favourite parts of their experience is the Rouge Booth, something they offer to any of their clients who happen to be putting on a big party, be it a wedding or an award ceremony. It’s here where the girls really do become fairy godmothers, setting up home at your do and fixing faces, collapsing hairstyles and even ripped dresses to make sure that there are no last minute disasters. Everyone knows that the women’s bathroom is an unofficial make-up studio anyway, so why not have someone there who actually knows what they’re doing?

So Coco Rouge is my new favourite place in Liverpool – I spent the most relaxing, exciting and fun afternoon with two young women who are as friendly as they are talented. If you want a place where you can feel like a star for a few hours, then head down to Hope Street. I’ll see you there.
